My family were homesteaders in Moody county in the late 1800's. Generations of these farmers have lived in the area ever since. My family started one of the Trent churches, built historic homes throughout Flandreau, Trent and Dell Rapids. My great grandfather contributed to historic downtown Sioux Falls. My mother raised my brother and myself in one of the first houses in Dell Rapids, built by the founding Rice Brothers. I have alot of history here.
Due to my father's military service, I was born in Alaska, lived in Oregon, toured three years in Germany, then settled down in Dell Rapids. I graduated from Dell Rapids High School.
I earned three BS degrees from Mankato State University: International Business, Human Resources Management and Industrial relations, with a Minor in Economics. I also taught English for an academic year in Tokyo, Japan in a neighborhood Juku school.
Upon Graduation, I moved back to Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls, working for several companies, such as Citibank, Spherion Staffing, Holiday Inn Downtown and LodgeNet (now Sonifi). I moved to Montana in 2000, working for a tech company, a Mary Kay Sales Director, and later for Marriott and a multi-million dollar storage facility.
I was incredibly active in the community, earning leadership roles in several volunteer organizations. I was awarded Montana's Young Careerist, competing in the National BPW speakoff. I was awarded both Montana's SBA Home Based Business Champion, as well as SBA's Region VII's designation, which included urban areas like Denver and including seven states. I was recognized as one of Billings MT 40 under 40. I also founded two business women's organizations as well as a guerilla marketing group focusing on lead generation.
I moved back to Dell Rapids to raise my young daughter, Jacqueline, and to be closer to family. As part of the Empire Mall Management Team, my role was focused on local leasing and business development. I was ranked as one of my region's top three performers for six of my seven years.
In my spare time, I earned my Master's degree in Strategic Human Resources Management from Bellevue University. I also volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader for six years and currently volunteer for Junior Achievement.
I made the decision to Open Enroll in the Baltic School System during my daughter's sixth grade year due to Baltic's strong academic reputation. I later moved to Baltic for the convenience and to be closer to my Mom, Ginger Hill, who has been a resident for over 16 years.
My daughter is now a proud graduate of the Baltic School District, who has also chosen to make Baltic her home as she continues to share her talents and gifts with the world. We both are passionate about service, although Jacqueline is a bit more low key about that. :) I could not be more proud of the adult she is becoming. As a single mother and with a village of friends and family, raising my daughter has been my single greatest accomplishment.
Baltic has been my home for 5 years. I chose to serve our community because I believed I could be the difference I wanted to see in our city.
You benefit from all of my adventures, experiences and successes. I bring all of this to the table to accomplish one thing-
Making Baltic Better.
